How to View Public Snapchat Stories Without the App
Published October 26, 2026 ยท Social Viewer
You don't need the Snapchat app, or even an account, to watch stories that creators and brands have made public. Here are the main ways to do it, and what each one can and can't show.
What counts as a public story?
A public story is a story an account with a Public Profile has shared with everyone, rather than just friends. It stays up for 24 hours unless the owner saves it as a highlight. Friends-only stories can't be viewed by anyone outside the owner's friend list, with any tool.
Option 1: Snapchat's own website
Every Public Profile has a page at snapchat.com/@username. Open it in any browser to see the profile and, on many devices, watch public content. The layout changes depending on your device and browser, and some features push you to open the app.
Option 2: Social Viewer
Social Viewer puts an account's public content on one clean page that works the same on desktop and mobile:
- Go to the home page and type the username, with or without the @.
- Check the profile details: name, bio, subscriber count, and when the last story was posted.
- Tap a story circle to watch it full screen. Use the arrow keys or tap the sides to move between snaps, and Esc to close.
Every profile also gets its own link, like /?u=nasa, so you can bookmark accounts you check often.
Option 3: The Snapchat app
If you already use Snapchat, you can search for any Public Profile in the app and subscribe to see new public stories in your feed. This is the only option that notifies you about new content, but it requires an account.
Will the account owner know I watched?
When you watch on the web without signing in, your Snapchat name isn't attached to the view, so it won't appear in the owner's viewer list. Snapchat can still see the request itself, just as any website can see visits. For details, see our FAQ.
Why can't I see any stories?
- The account is private: personal accounts without a Public Profile don't share stories publicly.
- Nothing posted recently: public stories expire after 24 hours. If the account hasn't saved any highlights, there may be nothing to show right now.
- Wrong username: display names and usernames differ. Check the exact username, which appears after the @.
Be respectful
Public doesn't mean free to reuse. Stories belong to the people who made them, so don't download, repost or use someone's content without permission.
